This historic hotel (established in 1789) off Manchester Square with its Georgian-detailed facade is snug, cozy, and traditional -- almost like a poor man's Brown's. We find it to be one of the most quintessentially English of all London hotels. You could invite the Queen to Durrants for tea. Over the 100 years they have owned the hotel, the Miller family has incorporated several neighboring houses into the original structure. A walk through the pine-and-mahogany-paneled public rooms is like stepping back in time: You'll even find an 18th-century letter-writing room. The bedrooms are rather bland except for elaborate cove moldings and comfortable furnishings, including good beds.
