One of Madrid's most pleasant family-run hotels, the Cervantes is much appreciated by Frommer's readers and has been for years. You'll take a tiny birdcage-style elevator to the immaculately maintained second floor of this stone-and-brick building. Each room contains a comfortable bed, spartan furniture, and a tiny bathroom with a tub/shower combination. No breakfast is served, but the owners, the Alfonsos, will direct you to a nearby cafe. The establishment is convenient to the Prado, Retiro Park, and the older sections of Madrid.
