Don't be fooled by the hotel's gaudy, Gaudí-esque facade, located within the deserted streets of Mayfair Mall (an outdoor shopping area). Its recent renovation and acquisition by the hip Kimpton Hotel group has given the lobby and interior of the hotel, rooms included, a more modern boutiquey feel with the usual trimmings -- Wi-Fi, terry robes, 300-thread-count sheets and plasma TVs. The rooftop deck area has a 60-foot swimming pool, bar, and guest cabanas with -- you guessed it, plasma TVs. Since the lobby is in a shopping mall, recreation is confined to the roof, where you'll find a small pool, sauna, and snack bar. NBA players have been known to stay here, as has one of Miami's more public residents, O. J. Simpson. A new restaurant, Ginger Grove, is a hip addition to the hotel, with Asian menu and decor as well as a cool poolside bar.
