This hotel occupies a six-story apartment house originally constructed in the 1930s. Its stripped-down, streamlined interior borrows in discreet ways from Bauhaus and minimalist models. One Munich critic said the rooms look as if Philippe Starck had gone on a shopping binge at Ikea. The result is an aggressively simple, clean-lined, and artfully spartan hotel with few facilities, except each room comes with a well-equipped, compact bathroom, mainly with a shower-tub combination. The German government gives it three stars. The Advokat lies around the corner from its more upscale neighbor, the Admiral, with which it shares management, but whose rooms often cost more. There's no restaurant on the premises and no particular extras to speak of other than a cozy in-house bar and a delightful rooftop breakfast. But the prices are reasonable, and the staff is helpful.
