With the Mystic, built in 2001 at a cost of $47 million, Marriott brings a measure of big-town pizzazz to Groton. Rooms adhere to corporate cookie-cutter standards, but there is little more that a business or leisure traveler might ask for. Room safes are large enough for laptop computers, and on the sixth-floor concierge level, extras include robes, fridges, and a lounge with breakfast and afternoon snacks. The big deal is the Elizabeth Arden Red Door Spa, which shares facilities with the excellent fitness center. In addition to manicures, pedicures, hair cut and color, and waxing services, there are 21 facial options, 15 massage options, seaweed wraps, and warm shea-butter body melts. The hotel restaurant, Octagon, gets high marks.
