Built on the site of a restaurant leveled by fire, The Inn at Stonington harmonizes nicely with its neighbors on the town's main street. Combining the intimacy of a small inn with the comforts of a luxury hotel, it abounds in felicitous flourishes that exceed expectations. Every unit has a gas fireplace, 6 have balconies, and 10 have Jacuzzis. While rooms reflect a single design sensibility, with tailored contemporary interpretations of country decor, no two are alike. Rooms in the annexed building next door are even larger than the originals. The inn has a 400-foot pier with deep water for those arriving on yachts. It's so quiet here, guests might think they are alone, until they enter the bar and find that everyone else has shown up for the evening wine-and-cheese gathering.
