Frommer's Highly Recommended
This family-owned chain looks all too generic outside, but inside is a pleasant surprise, with grander-than-expected public spaces and rooms that are fancier than those in the average chain, not to mention new beds. All have high ceilings (except for those on the fifth floor) and a decent amount of square footage, though rooms on the first floor can be dark with zero views. Bathrooms are small (with sinks in the dressing area). There is a nice little heated rooftop pool plus a small exercise room. Free popcorn and sodas are offered from 3 to 10pm, and a nachos and wine snack service goes from 5:30 to 7pm, touches that encourage guest socializing. Look for more specials, like 1 hour of free long distance calling per night. All that plus a friendly staff and a generous comp breakfast makes this not a bad little bargain for the area.
