The Experience

With a name like Trump, it's got to be big, bold and brash -- and Trump International Hotel & Tower does not disappoint. The Donald once bragged that his hotel, advantageously situated across from Central Park at Columbus Circle, blocked the park views of the rival Mandarin Oriental one block behind it -- and the 52-story tower, designed by architects Philip Johnson and Costas Kondylis (with a reflective bronze-colored glass surface, all the better to check your hair in), does make you feel like a similarly ruthless mogul. From the minute the glass doors open onto a compact lobby gleaming with marble floors, brass doors and crystal chandeliers, and you're handed personalized stationery, business cards and use of a cell phone, you own New York.

The Rooms

This being a Trump hotel, the furnishings in your room are (surprisingly) rather bland and (unsurprisingly) a bit overscaled for the space, which ranges from an ample 441 to 460 square feet. Bathrooms feature so much polished marble you might need shades to brush your teeth. The European-style kitchenettes in many rooms are a welcome touch -- as are the vast expanses of window, affording grandstand views of your kingdom. Ask for a corner room on the park side, for the wraparound windows and thrilling combination of park and skyline views.

The Service

Your go-to staffer is called your Trump Attaché -- and your wish is his or her command, granted in a snap. Your Attaché isn't there to chitchat, but will record all your preferences and maintain a guest history so that next time you check in, they'll know you prefer Dom to Cristalle.

The Highlights

Right on the ground floor is an attraction that draws even the strongest anti-Trump New Yorkers: the restaurant Jean-Georges, which is not only one of the city's best, but is actually improving as it ages. And a major perk of staying at the hotel is that chef Vongerichten and his team provide the room service -- and even an in-room chef to create a meal to your specifications. Work it off in the huge 6,000-square-feet fitness facility and spa, with its 55-feet lap pool, steam room and sauna. Or simply do as many New Yorkers do and jog through Central Park -- after all, it's right at your doorstep.
