Frommer's Very Highly Recommended

Perched upon 6 rolling acres south of downtown, this 1879 Victorian hotel beguiles with its long veranda and broad views. Bedrooms are furnished mostly with antiques. Drawn by the restaurant's changing menu of special appetizers -- braised pheasant with cranberry beans was one -- people start assembling at 4pm each summer day. They take up the Adirondack chairs on the sloping lawn to settle in for the spectacular sunsets, lubricated by cocktails and the most diverse beer and wine selection on the island. Bill Clinton stopped by for dinner when he was President, drawn by the reputation of the kitchen, one of the two most accomplished on Block Island. It can be assumed he had no trouble getting a table, but the rest of us need reservations from June to September.
