One of France's most famous chefs, Alain Ducasse, whose five-star Michelin ratings have been the source of endless jealously and competition, is the owner of this idyllic Provençal inn. It lies in the hamlet of La Celle, midway between Nice and Avignon, on rocky, rolling land, a short walk from an 18th-century monastery -- the architectural highlight of the village. Ducasse has set out to create an inn that lives up to one's fantasy of Provence: a dining room featuring simple and delicious cooking, and individually decorated rooms that evoke what you might have found within a distinguished Mediterranean villa. Five of them are within an annex that Ducasse commissioned in 1999; the others are within an ocher-sided manor house that was built in 1745 as one of the outbuildings of the nearby monastery. Bathrooms are roomy and luxurious.
