The Branimir Center encompasses not only the Allegra, but a multiplex cinema, offices, a fitness studio, and conference rooms. Everything hotel guests need is convenient, which is de rigueur for a hotel in Allegra's price range. But at the Allegra, the little nickel-and-dime things detract, as does the "so-what" attitude of the staff. For example, the hotel's Radicchio Restaurant advertises free parking for patrons, but hotel guests have to pay. The Allegra advertises wireless connections, but they work only at Joe's Bar in the sleekly modern but smoky lobby. To use the wireless, however, you have to go to the tobacconist next door to buy a code card with wireless minutes. Oddly, all hotel signs and instructions are in English and German only, no Croatian. Guest rooms look like Ikea ads with minimalist light-oak furniture, kitschy spreads, and curtains printed with the faces of famous celebrities. Bathrooms are designed for economy and fitted with one-soap-fits-all dispensers in the tub and at the sink; towels feel a bit like sandpaper. If you have kids, note that each room features a prominently displayed ad card (with explicit illustrations) that offers a selection of adult films.
