Zagreb's newest hotel made a splashy entrance to the city's expanding lodging scene when it opened in September 2006, and it has been getting better with age. From sumptuous guest rooms, to a Zen-inspired spa to a glass-domed cocktail lounge that offers patrons a spectacular city panorama, the Antunovic has raised the bar for creature comforts in Zagreb's hotels. Guest rooms and public spaces are all glass and steel softened by lots of warm-toned wood. The comfort level is jazzed up with flatscreen TVs, free wireless access in every corner of the place, and strategically placed artwork. Bathrooms are generously endowed with gleaming fixtures, spacious tub-showers, a wide array of toiletries, and showerside phones. For a special treat, book one of the hotel's 9 suites: The Presidential suite has a lavish entertainment area, a powder room, and caterer's staging area, but even the junior suites are well-appointed. All suites are situated in the hotel's glass tower, which makes for dramatic floor plans and views. Antunovic seems to have thought of everything -- in-house shopping mall, bank, casino, and on-premises gas station. The only drawback is its location, which is about 6km (3.6 miles) from Zagreb's center and 15km (9 miles) from Pleso Airport. To see the city's Old Town, you'll have to catch a cab or bus, which stops 300m (100 yards) from the front door and requires at least one transfer.
