Across the street from the Strossmayer Gallery and a section of Zagreb's Green Horseshoe, the Palace is just 5 minutes from Trg Jelicica. The Secessionist-style hotel was built as a private palace in 1891 and converted to a hotel in 1907, which makes it the oldest hotel in the city. So if you're looking for a comfortable, convenient place to stay that has character and a bit of history, then the Palace is the place for you. The restaurant has the ambience of a Viennese tearoom and guest rooms are in tune with the hotel's 19th-century charm. All but 30 of the 123 units have been updated for modern guests. Tip: Be sure to ask for one of the deluxe (updated) rooms, even though they cost 200kn (27€/$37) more than a standard room. Also, Wi-Fi Internet access is free in guest rooms, but dial-up can be quite costly.
