Except for those who need to catch early morning trains, few Western individual travelers stay at this Holiday Inn located just south of the Shanghai Railway Station. Even though there's a Metro entrance a mere block away, making access to downtown Shanghai relatively easy, the perception remains that it's inconvenient. The neighborhood is also a bit chaotic and there's not much within walking distance. Still, the hotel gamely musters on, relying mostly on business travelers, and offering attractive discounts (up to 50%). There are two separate towers: The recently renovated western Great Wall Wing is a mite quieter than the eastern Plaza Wing, though room rates are virtually the same at both. Rooms are modern with all the expected four-star amenities.
