The street housing the Hotel Posta is narrow, claustrophobic, and flanked with buildings with exteriors that could use a good cleaning. But the location is within a short walk of the Mussolini-era post office, several massive and very important churches, and the hubbub of a nearby street market. Despite the unprepossessing approach to the Posta, it is a celebrated address among writers, singers, artists, and actors appearing in productions at the local landmark theaters of Palermo. The controversial playwright, actor, director, and political activist Dario Fo (winner of the 1997 Nobel Prize in literature) is a frequent guest at the hotel, which has been run by the same family since the early 1920s. The Posta is small, functional, and unfrilly, with a tiny lobby; it's an intriguing blend of hypermodern design and antique stonework. The simple, fairly spacious guest rooms are accessible via a tiny elevator and come with small bathrooms with showers.
