Novotel took over the old Hotel New Otani, and reopened in late 2005 after a complete renovation. The hotel towers over the Singapore River just next to Clarke Quay (a popular spot for nightlife, dining, and shopping) and is a stroll away from the Historic District. At night, you have access to nearby Boat Quay bars and restaurants to one side and to the unique clubs of Mohamed Sultan Road on the other. All rooms have small balconies with good views of the river, the financial district, Fort Canning Park, or Chinatown, and the standard rooms have large bathrooms like those you typically see in more deluxe accommodations. Guest room decor is contemporary in shades of brown and tan, with small desks next to floor-to-ceiling picture windows with ergonomically designed chairs. The main lobby is an elevator ride up from the ground level. A small adjacent shopping mall has groceries in the basement and a few handy shops.
