This fine hotel, after a S$40-million (US$26-million/£13-million), 2-year renovation, sports a new swimming pool, guest rooms, lobby, driveway, front entrance, and food and beverage outlets, decorated in a Mediterranean theme integrating marble mosaics, plaster walls, beamed ceilings, and wrought-iron railings. The midsize pool on the sixth-floor roof features colorful tiles and draping arbors, a motif carried over through the new fitness center. Rooms also feature Mediterranean style in terra-cotta wall sconces, wrought-iron table legs, and shades of teal and aqua. If it's important to you, you need to specify a room with a view here. For good value, the Family Studio fits a king-size bed and two twins with separate family room and dining area and plenty of space for just S$100 (US$64/£33) extra. Just outside, a long terrace along Orchard Road hosts many restaurant choices, the most popular of which, Modestos, serves good pasta and pizzas at affordable prices.
