This is the largest and most unselfconsciously "mass market" resort on St. Kitts, a sprawling but well-managed behemoth that entered the scene in 2003. Its design evokes the Mediterranean with its tile roofs and lush landscaping. Its modernity is a long way from such historical resorts as Ottley's and Rawlins . In the center, a few steps down from the lobby, is a replica of Columbus's Santa Maria, surrounded by a reflecting pool and some waterfalls. The location, with its adjacent Royal Beach Casino, is near the narrowest part of St. Kitts, close to Atlantic-fronting beaches. Its 9 hectares (22 acres) include an 18-hole golf course designed by Canadian-born Tom McBroom and one of the largest casinos in the Caribbean. The decor of this sprawling resort is self-tabbed as "Euro-Caribbean," with vague references to the Italian Renaissance within its pastel-colored sprawl and richly patterned marble floors. Most of the tasteful, comfortable, and elegant accommodations are within a five-story central core, but there are also various low-rise "outbuildings" between the main building and the sea.
