Beefed up by a US$6-million renovation in 2007, this all-inclusive resort sits beside Choc Bay on an 89-hectare (220-acre) site 4.8km (3 miles) north of Castries. Very sports- and entertainment-oriented, with a well-organized children's club, the hotel is suitable for singles, couples of any persuasion, and families. Although there's another Almond Resort on St. Lucia, this is the better of the two, thanks to its renovation and its devotion to fine dining. Mass-market buffets here are rare. Sit-down meals in any of the on-site restaurants focus on artfully small portions and an innovative cuisine. The club's core is a wooden building with decks overlooking a free-form pool. The accommodations are in three- and four-story wings, each pleasantly and comfortably outfitted in English colonial furniture. The grounds are artfully landscaped, and seem to descend in a funnel-shaped cone toward a complex of swimming pools and a sandy beach. Each features one king-size bed or twin beds, plus patios or terraces. Expect an enlargement of this hotel during the lifetime of this edition, with the addition of at least another 100 units.
