Pasanggrahan is the Indonesian word for guesthouse, and this West Indian-style guesthouse lies 15m (50 ft.) from a private beach. A small, informal place, it's right on the busy, narrow main street of Philipsburg, toward the end of the mountainside of Front Street. It's set back under tall trees, with a white wooden veranda. The interior has peacock bamboo chairs, Indian spool tables, and a gilt-framed oil portrait of Queen Wilhelmina. The small- to medium-size renovated bedrooms have queen-size, double, or king-size beds with good mattresses and four-poster designs; some are in the main building and others are in an adjoining annex. Bathrooms are small but tidy, and all have tub/shower combinations. Set among the wild jungle of palms and shrubbery is the Pasanggrahan Restaurant, which specializes in freshly caught fish, lobster being the house specialty.
