"The staff is kindly and caring," a Swedish habitué of this place told us, "and the hotel is always reliable, tastefully furnished, and fairly priced." What more could you ask for? Excitement? No way. Discreet, tasteful, and quietly glamorous, this hotel in the heart of Stockholm was built in the mid-1800s by a religious group that offered lodgings to women newly arrived in Stockholm from the country. It's one of the longest-operating hotels in the city. Transformed into a hotel in the 1870s, and elevated to four-star government status thanks to many improvements, it retains an old-fashioned charm. The midsize-to-spacious bedrooms are furnished in a comfortable, but slightly dated style. The bathrooms, although small, are well maintained and equipped with tub/showers. There's no restaurant on the premises, but the lobby bar sells pizza and sandwiches.
