We sat up one night here with a woman member of the Swedish Parliament talking about politics. Before 2am, she'd convinced us that the government of Sweden was "superior" to all other democracies. If you stay here, chances are that you'll have your own encounters with parliamentary Sweden, since this classic hotel was designed in 1984 as living quarters for parliament members who come into Stockholm from the provinces. Of course, today, its rooms are open to all, and it is an especially inviting choice for families. The hotel lies at the entrance to Drottninggatan, the main shopping street. The elegant public decor includes 18th-century artwork and antiques. The beautifully decorated guest rooms are done up in a tasteful but traditional modern style, using reproductions. The best rooms are the executive floors with enhanced luxury and services. We like the many extras at this hotel, including the bike rentals. There are even yoga classes given in the hotel gym.
