From the road, there's no way to tell what this place is. The sign out front reads only DEVONFIELD, and the large house standing on a rise amid tall hemlocks and 29 acres could as easily be a yoga retreat or a conference center. But an inn it is, of the comfy-casual variety, verging on elegant. Five rooms have fireplaces, and there's a separate cottage with a large sitting room with fireplace, kitchen, Jacuzzi, and king bedroom. Several common rooms invite guests inclined to cocooning. New owners have put a great deal of money into upgrading bathrooms, enclosing two porches, adding new furniture, and installing flatscreen TVs.
