Guests slip into this friendly former stagecoach stop as easily as into a favorite old flannel robe. The Egremont has been a tavern and inn since 1780. That longevity shows in tilting floors and a grand brick fireplace. Rooms are simple and rustic, with iron bedsteads, rag rugs, wide-board floors, and adequate bathrooms (and no TVs). Dinner is the main event, served Wednesday through Sunday year-round in the dining room, in the tavern, and out on the front porch A singer-guitarist performs Thursday nights, a jazz ensemble Saturday evenings. Tip: Rates are negotiable during slow periods and for long stays. Kids are welcome.
