Harley Procter, who hitched up with a man called Gamble and made a bundle, had this house built in 1912. Its most impressive feature is the staircase that winds down into the lobby. Designed by McKim, Mead & White, it's a stunner, just the thing for a grand entrance. Equally impressive is the suite named for conductor Arthur Fiedler, with not one but two fireplaces, a big four-poster on the sun porch, and a Jacuzzi. Eight rooms have working fireplaces. Dining here is one of Lenox's greater pleasures. The bar features 55 grappas and 130 single-malt scotches. Also, a terrace has been added for after-concert light meals and desserts. Lunch is offered on summer weekends, with light fare after dinner to midnight. This is a totally nonsmoking property.
