The Experience

Inside this modern Greek Revival behemoth you'll find nothing but Southern charm, from the grand staircase leading down to the lobby to the attendant staff who are there with your chilled towel before you've even had a chance to sweat in the fitness center. Set in the heart of Midtown, the hotel is an ideal base camp for families, art enthusiasts and, of course, anyone in town to visit CNN or Coca-Cola. Compared with the city’s other luxe hotels, the Four Seasons wins for style as well as for understated but doting service.

The Rooms

Can you say subtle? In a city where hats and ruffles never went out of style, the Four Seasons balances homey and sophisticated without once referencing Scarlett O'Hara. Instead, you'll find newly renovated rooms with off-white damasks, creamy sofas and tasteful window treatments. They’re typically Four Seasons-large, with all rooms at 450 square feet, differentiated by their views. If getting a look at downtown Atlanta is important, be sure to ask for it. The corner suites get the view from two directions, and have separate entrances for the living and bedrooms.

The Service

The doorman is all smiles. The bellhop who is summoned to take care of minor inconveniences (once bringing a coffee machine) exudes pride. After 10 visits, repeat guests are given a personal thank-you--flowers or an Atlanta Braves cap with peanuts in it—which helps to maintain a loyal following.

The Highlights

Location, location, location. The hotel is right in Midtown, with the High Museum of Art and the Woodruff Arts Center just steps away. Don't miss Robert Gerstenecker's chef's table (the only one in Georgia) for a chance to taste his seasonal menu of classic American dishes (the braised short ribs will knock your socks off). Then swim it off in the enormous Grecian indoor pool, and catch some rays on the second-floor sundeck. In 2007, a nine-room luxury spa was added, featuring—what else?—a peaches-and-cream full-body treatment.
