343 rooms & suites & 4 bungalows
This is no cookie-cutter Hawaiian hangout. Expect a tropical blend of environmental awareness with Kohala Coast culture sprawling over 3,200 acres of the Big Island’s western coastline. Resembling a Hawaiian village, the centerpiece is the main hotel with restaurants, the Fire and Ice Spa and a wealth of activities nearby. You can put your car keys away for a few days; everything you need is here, from an Organic Hula Facial to a tee time on one of two golf courses is just a phone call away.
Of the 343 guest rooms and suites, more than 90 percent have ocean views—and that's fine. But it's the five 4,000-square-foot bungalows, adjacent to the hotel, that place this resort a cut above the competition. A private gate separates registered guests from the gawkers, which means confirmed private beach access for guests.
It's private butler service in the bungalows, of course, but even the "regular" guests come away happy with their seamless 24-hour room service. It's little wonder this iconic resort has been showered with accolades over the years. Everything can be arranged, from a private limo to Kona’s International Airport to a cool cocktail dressed with a fragrant gardenia and delivered to your lanai at sunset.
Mauna Lani’s Fire and Ice Spa is the epitome in themed spas. Reflecting the island's volcanic reputation (don’t worry, if the lava is flowing you’ll be alerted), the 25,000-square-foot facility is paradise on earth. An additional 15,000 square feet are devoted to nine thatched huts surrounded by lavish tropical flowers. Ancient Hawaiian healing methods influence the spa menu, but if you require more try the Lava Watsu: For aquatic body works, it’s the biggest pool of its kind on the Big Island.
