This landmark hotel has a lovely white-sand-beach setting that offers good swimming and snorkeling. Twenty-seven bedrooms occupy modern two-story town houses, each with oceanfront verandas, but 12 more units are located in the older building across the street, home to the Courtyard Café, which serves breakfast and lunch. Some rooms have kitchenettes, but all contain ceiling fans and fridges plus small bathrooms with tub/shower combinations. (Rooms on the upper floors are larger and have higher ceilings.) Ask for one of the handsomely renovated rooms shown on the website; alas, our room could have used some refreshing, particularly the motel-style bathroom. Dinner is served at the Birdcage Bar & Restaurant; on Sunday and Wednesday nights, the whole of Duke Street and beyond seems to congregate for the poolside barbecue buffet ($14-$26) and the toe-tapping ripsaw music of \"dive-master troubadour\" Mitch Rolling and the High Tide.
