Of the numerous lodgings lined up along Mountain Road, few are more family-friendly than this one. The Golden Eagle gets it right with a children's play area, three pools, two ponds for fishing, a regulation tennis court, 80 acres of private woods laced with hiking trails, and even a small spa offering kids' massages. Adults enjoy the place, too, particularly the romantic cottages and suites with fireplaces and whirlpools behind the main building. The spa also has a popular indoor Jacuzzi, and the mornings-only cafe serves breakfasts of local eggs, dairy, and bacon. Don't come if you're expecting white-glove service, valet parking, and a fancy restaurant; the Golden Eagle is perfect for family rustication. There are also a few apartment units with full kitchens or kitchenettes, and even a house for rent.
