Destined to become a major destination for golfers, this new (opened in June 2006) resort hotel overlooks an 18-hole mountaintop golf course designed by Jack Nicklaus and his son. Part of a new, high-end resort-community development covering some 486 hectares (1,200 acres), the hotel is big and handsomely crafted, with fine natural finishes of wood and stone and the overall ambience of a giant West Coast mountain lodge. Rooms (in two separate buildings) are spacious, well designed, and furnished in a way that's both luxurious and comfortable; each has a balcony where you can enjoy mountain views and the sound of wind in the trees. The extralarge bathrooms feature soaker tubs and separate showers. Housed in a separate building, the gym is the best on Vancouver Island, and the spa offers medically supervised dermatology services.
