Opened in 2005, the Beacon attracts a lively local gathering in its bar and grill, right off the lobby, which adds to the overall genial ambience of the hotel. All rooms are furnished with flatscreen TVs and contemporary touches, like down-filled duvets and large leathery-looking headboards. The best rooms are in the "turret": the one-bedroom suites, one per floor, that perch in the corner of the building. But the New York-style junior suites offer a great deal: Each suite's compact kitchen includes a dishwasher, fridge, stovetop, microwave, and cabinets. Add the roomy living room with a sleep sofa and you've got a good home base -- for both corporate folks on business and families on holiday. The hotel's seasonal 10th-floor bar is open Wednesday to Saturday and offers views of the Dupont Circle neighborhood, the boulevards of the city, and -- come the Fourth of July -- the fireworks on the Mall.
Facilities: Restaurant (modern and classic American); bar w/indoor atrium and outdoor patio; seasonal rooftop bar; in-house cardio fitness center, plus free access to nearby, fully equipped YMCA w/indoor pool; tour bus stop; 24-hr. business center; room service (6:30am-11pm); same-day laundry service; dry cleaning; 8 rooms for those w/limited mobility, 2 w/roll-in showers.
