"When you check in here, you become part of the Pirates Point family," says the owner Gladys Howard, the island's most celebrated chef. The resort often has the atmosphere of a house party, especially when guests gather in the wood-paneled bar to discuss the adventures of the day, most often their underwater experiences. Pirates Point is ideal for watersports or just relaxing. Its remodeled accommodations are attractively but simply furnished, many of the units opening onto views of the water. Our favorite is no. 5 because of its superior comfort and scenic vistas. In addition to the regular rooms, the resort offers a non-air-conditioned family cottage with two large rooms, each suitable for three or four guests. There is also a complex of another four seaside cottages, with balconies overlooking Preston Bay. All cottages are rented by the room. Bathrooms are well maintained, and each contains a shower stall. The resort's packages include your room, three excellent meals per day (yes, all alcoholic beverages as well), and two-tank boat dives daily, featuring tours of the Bloody Bay Wall, the Cayman Trench, and Jackson Reef. Other activities include snorkeling, bird-watching, bonefishing, tarpon fishing, and exploring. The most popular nights at the bar here are Thursday and Saturday, when the resort offers a barbecue and a convivial crowd pours into the place.
