The Saigon Morin is a government-run, refurbished colonial block near the main bridge in town. The recent addition of an executive floor raised their room standard somewhat, but they are no match for nearby La Residence, despite having similar prices. \"Junior Deluxe\" rooms have large, stylish bathrooms with separate tubs and glass standing showers, and they're connected to the bedroom via a fun \"peek-a-boo\" shuttered opening. The lower-standard rooms are still the same Chinese business-hotel basic, with old laminated furniture and threadbare carpeting dotted with cigarette burns. The hotel forms a large courtyard around a central garden and pool area with dining. Over 100 years old, the Morin was originally the colonists' address of note, and photos line the halls of this bygone era. The street in front of the Morin was where a young Ho Chi Minh carried his first placard in protest of foreign occupation. If he could only see the place now. The exterior maintains some of that old, colonial charm, but common areas are brash and busy, neon-lit, and cluttered with souvenir stalls. Service is a bit hit-or-miss but usually friendly.
