A part of the Residenz, this theater is a sightseeing attraction in its own right. The Bavarian State Opera and the State Theater perform small-scale works here in keeping with the tiny theater's intimate character (it seats 550). It was designed by court architect François Cuvilliés in the mid-18th century and is celebrated as Germany's most outstanding example of a rococo tier-boxed theater. During World War II, the interior was dismantled and stored. After the war, it was reassembled in the reconstructed building. For admission of 5€ ($6), visitors can view the theater daily 9am to 6pm. Box-office hours are Monday through Friday from 10am to 6pm, Saturday from 10am to 1pm, and 1 hour before the beginning of every performance.
