This huge brick-and-glass complex stands on the bluffs of the Isar River in the Haidhausen District. The center, which opened in 1985, has five performance halls, including the Philharmonic Hall. It also shelters the Richard Strauss Conservatory and the Munich Municipal Library. Two other concert halls of interest to most visitors are the Kleiner Konzertsaal and the Richard Strauss Musikschule.
