This elegant 19th-century building provides the perfect backdrop for any performance, be it ballet, concert, or opera. São Paulo's city opera company, ballet company, and symphonic orchestra all make their homes here and put on regular performances. The theater is also home to a pair of choral companies, an experimental orchestra, and a music school. So popular is the teatro that it's in use nearly every night and many days of the week. Check the website listings (look under "programmação") for lunchtime concerts, the perfect way to break up a day of sightseeing or shopping.
