Located inside Marrakech’s weathered 12th-century ramparts, La Mamounia is as synonymous with this ancient city as the Plaza is with New York or Claridge’s with London. Through its 82 years, this former palace of a Moroccan crown prince has hosted royalty, presidents and celebrities, including the likes of the Rothschilds, Rita Hayworth and more recently Kate Blanchett, Hillary Clinton and Jacques Chirac. But it will always be associated with Winston Churchill, whom alongside his wife Clementine, made annual fortnightly visits for over two decades. Renowned for its gardens, 20 manicured acres of rose bushes, bougainvilleas, orange trees and palms, the hotel features 171 rooms and 57 suites, including seven themed suites, all of which underwent a two-month renovation in 2002 by renowned interior designer Alberto Pinto.
