The venue is charming and convivial, and the prices are relatively modest at this well-managed Italian restaurant that sits immediately adjacent to the lower stage of the Mönchsberg elevator. The Austrian-born owners, the Rauzenberger brothers, are "Italian by adoption," thanks to the dozens of business and holiday trips they've made south of the border during the acquisition of the Italy-derived foodstuffs and decorative objects that are showcased within this restaurant. The street level is less formal and more animated than the dining room upstairs, but regardless of where you opt to sit, the menu is the same. We recently enjoyed a tantalizing fettuccine with shrimp as well as vegetable tortellini stuffed with blue cheese and spinach. Equally vibrant was a platter of chicken Il Sole, with fresh parmesan, a zesty tomato sauce, and pesto. The lemon-flavored chicken with fresh tagliatelle was a delight, as was a selection of grilled or sautéed fresh fish. Pizzas come in 15 different flavors, with the house brand (Il Sole, made with ham, salami, artichoke hearts, and mozzarella) being the most consistently popular.
