This eatery, known mainly to East End locals, is patronized for its real down-home cooking. Just more than 50km (31 miles) east of Lucaya, it opens onto views of the sea. Far from the high-rise hotels, in a small residential community utterly devoid of casino-inspired glitz, this little restaurant and lounge looks as it would have if it existed in The Bahamas of the 1920s and 1930s. Some of the best cracked conch we've sampled on Grand Bahama is served here, rolled in a light batter and fried in piping-hot oil so that its crust is slightly crunchy. Another favorite, always on the menu, is fried grouper with classic peas 'n' rice. Or, for a savory dish, order the chicken barbecued in zesty sauce. However, don't set out on a trek to the East End with this place envisioned as your final destination without calling in advance, since opening hours have been erratic since the hurricanes of 2005.
