The only problem with this restaurant is that it's closed every evening (except for large parties), preferring to focus on lunch instead, when it gets extremely busy and crowded. Set at the top of a ridge overlooking Harbour Island's spectacular beach, it was built in 2003 in a traditional green-painted design (with louvered shutters) that's evocative of Harbour Island buildings that are a lot older. Inside, the cuisine is the product of the Bahamian/American couple Jim Black and Julie Lightbourne, who met in Africa while Jim was working in the safari business. Within a brightly painted interior with mahogany doors, windows, and bar tops, you'll find a changing menu that, depending on the owners' whim, might highlight Bahamian, Italian, French, Thai, or Pacific Rim cuisine. The menu might include hummus with grilled pita bread, conch chili (a welcome variation on conch chowder), fresh salads, baba ganoush (a Lebanese eggplant specialty), seafood quesadillas, and a flavorful curried chicken salad with chunks of apple and mango chutney. Grouper filets, prepared at least two different ways, are usually available as well. The restaurant's name, incidentally, translates from local patois as "gossip."
