In spite of its seedy location (take a cab at night!), this is perhaps the most sophisticated Catalan bistro in Barcelona. Opened in 1970, it has served King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofía, Julio Iglesias, and the famous Catalan bandleader Xavier Cugat. Isidre Gironés, helped by his wife, Montserrat, is known for his fresh cuisine beautifully prepared and served. Try spider crabs and shrimp, a foie gras salad, sweetbreads with port and flap mushrooms, or carpaccio of veal, Harry's Bar-style. The selection of Spanish and Catalan wines is excellent.
