If you remember the wonderful fountain on the castle with King Matthias from the 15th century, who came across a maiden in the woods and they fell in love, you will recognize Ilona as the maiden. Szép meaning beautiful and as legend has it, this love tryst happened where this restaurant is now located. The interior is simplistic to the point of being Socialist outdated, but since it has a 150-year-old history, and the food is served in hearty, delicious portions, who can complain about decor. When weather permits, sit on the terrace. If you feel something furry pass by your legs, it is the restaurant cat. Some selections are cooked on lava stones and the barbecue pork cooked this way is moist and tender. We strongly suggest the Hortobagy pancakes, which are meat wrapped in a thin crepe with a creamy sauce poured over the top and a dollop of sour cream. Though located in a Buda neighborhood that is a bit of a trek to reach, the food is great and sitting under the trees is relaxing.
