The ideal dinner venue (in contrast with La Petite Ferme, where views make it ideal for lunch), the rose-covered "Russian bunkhouse" is almost hidden from the road, and the vaulted ceiling gives it a modern medieval feel. Only the well-respected wines of this estate -- handpicked to complement each of Matthew Gordon's dishes -- are served, and there are no appetizers or main courses, just full or half portions or shared platters to mix and match. The menu is seasonal; start with oysters and a celebratory flute of Pierre Jourdan Brut Savage (summer), the
tian (casserole), or salmon trout salad; then try the roasted loin of Karoo lamb with ravioli and Italian tomatoes or goat's-milk-cheese soufflé. Finish with Belgian chocolates (handmade in the valley under the Huguenot label) with Fine de Jourdan potstill brandy (brandy distilled in a traditional copper pot) and coffee.
