This is a small place right across from the post office. I really like the owner's selection of menu items, offering in a small package quite a varied sampling of Mexican standards: sopes (little fried masa cakes topped with savory meats and veggies); caldo tlalpeño (chicken, rice, and vegetable soup; my preference over the tortilla soup, which is what most people come for); and enchiladas del portal, which are made in the classic western Mexican style. Other offerings include mole and arrachera a la tampiqueña (steak with an array of side dishes such as enchiladas, guacamole, or rice and beans).
