Just a short walk south and west of Wat Phra Singh, Huen Phen is a good, authentic place to take a break and eat when temple touring. They have an English menu, but peek in the open kitchen and you'll see an extensive range of local dishes. Of course, there's khao sawy, Chiang Mai's famed Burmese curry with noodle, but try the specialty: khanom jeen nam ngua, a beef stew in a hearty broth. One small dining room has air-conditioning. You can't beat the prices here.
