This restaurant, founded in 1643, is so tied into Hamburg maritime life that many residents consider it the premier sailors' stopover. It's the best place in town for Labskaus (sailor's hash); if you order it, you're given a numbered certificate proclaiming you a genuine Labskaus eater. You can also order many other traditional north German dishes. The restaurant's name, along with that of the street, speaks of the historic mercantile links between Hamburg and England.
