Frommer's Very Highly Recommended
Although a dish might miss here and there, this place nonetheless continues to receive accolades as one of the most accomplished of its type in Britain. In a former bank building in Kensington, the restaurant serves one innovative dish after another in flavors and combinations that may be new to you. Zaika lives up to its name, which, translated, means "sophisticated flavors." Of course, you can also order traditional dishes such as lamb and lentil patties stuffed with egg and onion. For starters, launch your repast with such delights as a platter of minced duck rolls or else morsels of tandoori chicken breast in green herbs. Main courses feature some sublime harmonies of flavor such as pan-fried and spicy sea bass with Indian couscous, raw mango, and a turmeric sauce, and -- one of our favorites -- "butter chicken," a classic tandoori chicken breast, with a buttery tomato sauce flavored with fenugreek, with saffron rice and stir-fried spinach. For a true feast, order the tasting menu,
Jugalbandi.
