Named for Thomas Jefferson's maitre d', Lemaire is one of Virginia's finest hotel dining rooms. With a pianist on the grand, waiters providing gracious service, and tables widely spread through several areas including a glass-enclosed room along Franklin Street, it also is Richmond's favorite restaurant for very special occasions. Although French in origin, the cuisine relies heavily on local produce such as Chesapeake Bay rockfish (sea bass) with country bacon, tomatoes, and shiitake mushroom succotash; glazed pork chop with braised collard greens; and shrimp and clams with Surry sausage and stone-ground grits. You can sample it all with a three-course tasting menu at dinner. Both breakfast and lunch see extensive buffets in addition to the regular menus.
