A favorite lunch destination for the downtown business crowd, Bambara's slick dining room is the ideal pre- or post-theater dinner spot, or an ideal setting for a romantic meal. It's also conducive to people-watching, with windows on the busy (for Salt Lake, that is) intersection of Main and 200 South. Chef Robert Barker, a Texas transplant, brings a host of influences to the table, from Japanese to Italian to French, intermingling them without any one tradition overwhelming the others. The dinner menu changes regularly but always includes a delectable Utah corn bisque and a melt-in-your-mouth filet mignon with a roasted shallot-cabernet sauce. Breakfast is fairly traditional, and lunch brings sandwiches, steaks, and a savory Southern fried chicken salad. Popular three-course lunch and dinner specials go for $11 and $28, respectively. Service is understated and excellent. Full liquor service is available.
