We actually only tried this because of the fierce lineup at next-door Mestiço, but we're glad we did. True, there was a wait here as well, but we could pass the time drinking cocktails in the comfortable and quirky upstairs bar. Both bar and restaurant have a great funky atmosphere, decorated with a profusion of cast-off items -- plastic lunch boxes, shower curtains, tacky postcards, posters, and mismatched furniture -- that only a talented decorator could turn into something other than a yard sale. But somehow it works. The menu lists only a handful of items, mostly simple bistro fare, including several types of quiche with side salads, steak and baked potato, coq au vin, and croque-monsieur sandwiches. The dessert menu is even smaller and consists of apple pie and chocolate petit gâteau; we can vouch for both.
